Images of thigh model generated from real data. This data is from digitised cadavers as part of the National Institute of Health's 'Visible Human' project. Here image data (last slide at left) is segmented and the features are extracted, generating a series of contours. Interpolations are then estimated between these contours to create the bones, major nerves and muscle groups shown.
This anatomically correct model was used in the wound debridement training simulator. Using accurate, real-world derived models is necessary to ensure effective training of medical personnel in the surgical tasks such as wound cleaning.
